Because I love documenting all things holiday, I've gone back to November for posting this entry.
Saturday the 3rd of November was my anniversary with AnkoNick. He'd planned our six month dinner, so it was my turn to plan something and I wanted it to be entirely wonderful. I got the best perfume in the world as an unexpected present; We'd agreed no presents as we prefer to spend our money on good food and adventures, but a few days earlier (whilst picking out Brianna's birthday present) I'd come across the nicest perfume in the world, and had called Nick and spoken about it. Apparently straight after this conversation, he wrote down the name of the perfume and called around the city to see if he could get it, which is just so sweet.
Anyway, travel stuff: We set off on our drive towards our destination, Mt Mee (about an hour above brisbane, in the mountains, obviously). He didn't know where we were going, so I directed while he drove. It was fun although so ridiculously hot, and I totally hate summer. Anyway, the drive as we got closer there was pretty, and we finally made it to our destination, Oceanview Estate Winery for lunch. The place was gorgeous. We ordered lunch, and it was soooooo devine. We had a bread to start with... I can't for the life of me remember what was in it, but it was fresh bread rolled in herbs etc, and baked, with some balsamic oil thingy (ok, mind blank and totally forget what was mixed with it now. haha). Then we had entree, and this was the most amazing thing ever- it was a roast pumpkin and macadamia nut sort of mash, set on top of pappadums with yoghurt over the top... obviously there was a lot more to it than that, but holy hell, this thing was the bomb. Probably the best thing I've ever tasted, so amazing. So we ranted and raved over this, then had our mains (mine was chicken, his was lamb), which were also quite nice. We then did the wine-tasting and bought three bottles to take with us. Yum, yum, yum. The staff were great here and the food and wine was delicious. If you're feeling like a break from the city, it's a fairly short drive given how much awesomeness awaits you.
After that, we headed over to the cabin. I think Nick was a little confused initially about what we were doing there, but as soon as he saw inside (eg. spa in the bathroom, spa on the deck) he quickly figured out why I'd picked the place. It was sort of cute, country sort of cottage that had absolutely everything you could need. The spa outside was so much fun. Alas, I forgot to bring my camera, as I would have loved to take pictures of us in the spa at night (we put on the light, meaning that the spa was alternating colours, super cool, lol). You could just make out lights from the city on the deck at night, which was a great view to be had from the warm spa. We had lots of fun spa-ing, recovering from eating so much food (neither of us could eat for the rest of the day, so full!), sunning on the deck, watching the cows in the yard, and looking at the lights of the city at night whilst sipping red wine in our fabulous spa.
Fun times!
On sunday we stopped in at the Dayboro (country town nearby) markets, and then headed back home. Dayboro is a really cute little town and they have some killer fudge for sale at those markets if you're hungry and nearby.
All in all, a fabulous weekend retreat and anniversary success!
