I am going to take this opportunity to post up some pictures of when me and Shazza went on our trip down to Melbourne.

We stayed with Sharon's sister and her husband. They were in this funky little apartment that had been built within a converted warehouse. There are heaps of apartments like that in Melbourne - I think that they have really strict rules about protecting heritage buildings. The net result is that there is whole streets of brand new, really rich apartments which look like warehouses from the front! Sorry, I don't have any pictures of that. :(

We spent about a week down there, and we spent about half of that time exploring the Great Ocean Road (which I will blog about in a separate entry) and the other half exploring Melbourne and surrounds. I love Melbourne, it is such a vibrant city! There are so many interesting things to see, and its got a cool cultural vibe going on!

One of the best things about Melbourne was this little Greek cafe down the road from where we were staying. Because there is such a huge Greek population in Melbourne (trivia: the third largest Greek population in the world), there are all these cafes and restaurants serving up really good, traditional-style Greek food. This cafe served us spanakopita, which is like a pastry filled with spinach and fetta cheese, and it was certainly one of the best things I have tasted. I could live on spanakopita alone... although I am sure I wouldn't live very long. :)

I have posted up a few pictures that we took in the city. There are heaps of awesome old buildings. The public transport is really good, the trams are actually really useful and everyone uses them - I thought that they would just be a bit of a curiosity more than anything. The CBD is huge, a bit too big to walk around easily - so you need the trams to get from one end to the other.

What else did we do?

We checked out the museum, Melbourne has an awesome museum. It even has a giant aviary inside it which all sorts of birds fly around in!

The nightlife in Melbourne is very happening. We went out on a Friday night, and everybody was out - the streets were alive. Even families and old people were out, I guess it is just the culture to go out a bit more than here in Brisbane.

We also caught an AFL game at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground). It was awesome! The stadium was less than half full, but there was nearly 40000 people there! It was a good atmosphere - the Melbournites love their AFL.

I will post a Blavel about our trip down the Great Ocean Road next.

Or, a better idea might be to put a 'remember me' checkbox under the login box so that you are automatically logged in anyway...

I intentionally removed the picture resizing because it was too problematic and it didn't work for ppl with old browsers.
