Springboks vs Wallabies

This post is devoted entirely to the events of Saturday the 8th of August.  Looking at the plethera of pictures I took and remembering just how awesome the day was, I simply couldn't justify combining it with anything else.  This was to mark my first rugby experience and I had been looking forward to it for weeks.

There were 13 of us in our group and we all piled into a 10 passenger van.  The great thing about Africa, as I'm sure Will and Emma will remember, is that seat belt laws and vehical passenger limits are pretty much none existent.  Before heading to the game we stopped at this fabulous restaurant in the outskirts of the Khayelitsha township in Cape Town.  The week before some of the girls in our group went on a tour of this township and it concluded with a meal at Mzoli's Meat, so no worries we sort of knew what we were doing.  Our driver was Afkrikaans and was completely uptight about entering a black area.  I think she resented us after this trip; we thought it was hilarious.  The great thing was that the locals were much more friendly than she has ever been.

What made this place so unique was that you didn't order food like a normal restaurant.  Instead you bought the meat you wanted at the neighboring butcher shop and then  brought it to the grill.  They would season everything for you and in about 25 minutes it was ready to eat! For less than R100 ($12.50) me, Luke, and Jake shared two giant steaks and several feet of sausage.  I swear we consumed over 5 pounds of protien.  I highly recommend this place to anyone who has ever craved a juicy chunck of meat.  However, be prepared because they don't provide any silverware.  We all felt like lions on the Serengeti tearing and ripping our meat from the bone.  Luckily we maintained what we could of our manners (probably because our meat was cooked).

After this we headed to Newlands Rugby Stadium to watch the South African Sprigboks play the Australian Wallabies.  The stadium holds 46,000 and it was sold out.  We were in the standing room only area, although we were nearly on the field.  Our view was spectacular! I think my pictures will do the game more justice than I ever could.  Enjoy!
