Last Sunday, I went to Pulau Ubin in an attempt to escape city life for a day. I posted some messages on expat forums and a girl called Anna who replied came along aswell. Pulau Ubin is a really small island between Singapore and Malysia just off the north east(ish) coast which hasn't been developed at all. There's still jungle there and we hired bikes to cycle round (as everyone does - never seen so many bike shops in one place!). I think I must be acclimatised by now because I wasn't sweating nearly as much cycling around as I was just walking around my flat when I first arrived.
Even though it was "countryside" it was still quite Singapore-like with an observation tower and walkways around the coast. I'm really looking forward to going travelling now!
Apparently there used to be lots of animals on the island but they were killed when SARS hit Singapore in 2003 (so I'm told - seems a bit crazy seen as it's an isolated island). Very tiring but fun day. First exercise I've done since coming here!
