Johor Bahru in Malaysia is just across the bridge from Singapore. It's not a partularly interesting place (as we found out) but is great for going shopping because the prices are lower than in Singapore. Loads of Singaporeans use it in the same way that people from England do the booze run to France. The government has clamped down on people driving over to buy petrol though; you get fined if you don't leave Singapore with a full tank.
The journey there was quite eventful. Jing managed to leave Singapore fine but then got promptly deported from Malaysia when they realised that he was Chinese and didn't have a visa. Oops. I on the other hand had trouble leaving Singapore in the first place. Apparently it was a "random check" that meant that I had to sit in the passport checking booth for 10mins (looking like I'd been arrested or something) and then had to go into some office to have my details checked. Very strange.
JB as the cool kids here call it is great for buying illegal DVDs from very professional looking shops. We didn't get any though because they'd probably get confiscated at the Singapore check-point.
Looking forward to seeing some of the real Malaysia later on.
