Out from under the Tuscan sun...

We spent last weekend in gorgeous southern Italy, exploring Pompeii, Capri, and the vicinity.

Pompeii was amazing to see in person. It's one of those things that I've been drooling over since I was a child and to finally get to be there was pretty surreal. It's a HUGE site and I feel like I hardly covered any of it. What's amazing is how preserved everything is: the restaurants, shops, baths, hotels, sports arenas, temples, brothels... unreal! One of the most eerie aspects of the site is that, from just about everywhere in Pompeii, you can see Mount Vesuvius (which is, by the way, still the most active volcano in continental Europe). From the streets, you can easily imagine the last site thousands of people saw that day in 79 AD.

The next morning a group of us took a train and then a ferry to the island of Capri, definitely one of the most gorgeous places on the planet. Home of the rich and famous, I spent only the day on the island!

Once again, please enjoy the borrowed photos, compliments of my friends.

In other news, the package from the states that contained my battery charger (among other items) is being shipped back to the states because they were asking for a huge chunk of money in tax and fees. So I found a charger in town and bought it - ridiculously priced as it was, it was still a good deal cheaper than those import fees!

Next: Budapest, Hungary (Oct 1 - Oct 4)

Ciao fellas!
