Irish shenanigans

Hi all, this weekend we decided to go to Ireland.

We spent the weekend in Cork, which I am told is the true capital of Ireland. I am also told that it is the headquarters of the IRA, but anyway...

On Saturday we woke up in the dead of night to make our way to Stansted airport for a 6:30 flight. By 7:30 we were landing on the Emerald Isle!

We caught a bus to Blarney pretty much as soon as we got to Cork.

Blarney is a village that is about half an hour away from Cork, famous for its proximity to the Blarney Castle. Blarney Castle, in turn, is famous for the Blarney Stone. It is said that whosoever kisseth the Blarney stone will have forever bestoweth upon them the gift of eloquence, or as most of us know it, 'the gift of the gab'.

Apparently it worked for Winston Churchill, who kissed the stone in the days before he rose to prominence as a politician!

The castle is a really beautiful place to visit, as you will see from the pictures. Because we went early, there weren't too many tourists, either.

On Saturday night we decided to head out to sample to Cork nightlife. Turns out Cork is a pretty happening town, and there is a lot of cool live music to be had. We went to a pub and listened to a blues rock band which had a mad (no, really) keyboard player.

We also socialised with some Irish anarchists at said pub, who enlightened us to the capitalist monster that is the European Union, and could relate to my complaints about the John Howard era. Luckily we left before they could recruit us into any organisation of questionable moral standing.

Questionable moral standing? Like the Labor Party?
