Not the beach off Baywatch

Today we took a 50 minute train ride south to check out the seaside town of Brighton.

Brighton is centered on a pebble beach where everybody eats fish and chips while dodging seagulls the size of small children.

It has a really good vibe. It was a very nice day today (if a bit cold) and everybody was out enjoying it. We sat on the pebbles and ate fish and chips like true English people.

We checked out the Royal Pavilion at Brighton, which is basically a holiday house / palace that George IV built back in the day. It was really great inside, probably the most lavish rooms I have ever seen. George was apparently a big party man and this place was used to impress and entertain.

One thing that is really annoying me, however, is how many of these places don't let you take pictures inside! I just cannot see the rationale for this. In fact, why would they throw away the free marketing they would get by people taking pictures of the attraction? (see wise words by Seth Godin) So unfortunately I have no pictures of the inside of this amazing palace.

The buskers were really cool in Brighton! They could really play! There was even a mini-rock band playing covers in the street.

Brighton Pier would be great if it hadn't been colonised by carnie-folk some years back. However we very much enjoyed eating fudge smothered waffles on deck chairs on the pier.

I have also attached some pictures we have taken around town lately. Cya!

I found a lot of places in europe (including very iconic places such as the sacre coeur in paris, and neuschwanstein castle in bavaria) won't allow pictures. I'm not sure what the rationale for this is either... the best I could guess was that perhaps they believe people will not pay the money to see inside if they can look at photos, or possibly there's security concerns with having the place photographed... Who knows!
Anyway, glad to read things are well- how goes the job search?
There's a letter in the mail heading in your direction as we speak, btw! :)
Talk soon! x

And if they don't let you take photos, maybe you will buy the postcards they have on sale!
By the way, there are some nice sandy beaches in the UK, for example in Cornwall, just as nice as we have, but of course the water is a lot colder. And I know what you mean about the seagulls, I couldn't get over the size of them either!

Well i have finally logged on to blavel with the help of his royal highness Mr J Grime. I have also just discovered, to my dismay, that Johnnie can edit what I write and even delete it. You may not hear much of me!

But anyway, about me, I am honoured enough to be living with John and Sharon, and what an experience it has been!
Within the first week, Simon (my bf), and Johnnie had well and truely bonded. Turns out they enjoy the same music, cook the same food, and, most importantly, like working out. Before long, the conversation changed to "gym sessions." In fits of laughter, I listened to a macho conversation of free vs machine weights, treadmill times, and, wait for it.. how much each could bench! (My bf won, just so you all know)..

Neither of our lovely new flatmates have jobs yet, and neither of them seem very interested in attaining such mentioned jobs. However, they are currently in a "who gets their national insurance number first" competition - though why one needs a national insurance number without a job to pay tax from, I'm not entirely sure!! Priorities huh?!
And despite what these lovely Australians tell you, they are indeed struggling with good ol' London Transport! It was a 5hr round trip to partake in a 40min journey last week. In fact, (and I'm not too sure how this works out) it took Johnnie longer than it did Sharon. We think his nose is growing!
Well I better go - we are watching Point Break-(Sharon just asked Johnnie if it was a true story)... and the kids are eating their favourite yoghurt straight from the carton..I do wonder about these two!

I will keep you all updated with the REAL story of their adventures - until then, I will be checking regularly for my fan mail..X
