Birthday Weekend in England!

This weekend proved to be an wonderful turning 22 experience!  The weather was in the 70's/80's and sunny all weekend, which is something out of the ordinary for the UK.  Friday night we hung out in our common room hanging out and playing poker.  And Megan won the prize of being the first to sing Happy Birthday to me; she was on the ball about skyping during my birthday according to UK time!  At midnight, I donned a 'Miss Birthday Girl' sash; I also had a 'Birthday Princess' tiara that I wore on Saturday night.

I took advantage of sleeping in on my birthday then went into town with my neighbors Stuart and Japari for the Ormskirk market.  Saturday afternoon, my friends and I watched the FA Cup Final (Liverpool-Everton vs. London-Chelsea) in the bar on campus.  Everton scored within the first 26 seconds which was amazing to watch, but Chelsea ended up winning 2-1.  Basically everyone in my residence hall spent the afternoon laying outside doing homework and playing football.  However, this soon morphed into a hall-wide water fight in the courtyard.  At first, I resisted the H2O and got my wishes respected considering my birthday.  But that only lasted about 20 minutes before I grabbed water balloons!  We all got drenched and I was the lucky one to get hit with the last water balloon.

Saturday night, I gathered up all my UK and American friends and we headed into Ormskirk for a night of celebrating getting another year older :(  Even though a 22nd birthday isn't a special one, I was lucky and got complimentary drinks all night!  We ended the night at Arriba dancing the night away before heading back to campus.  On Sunday, our study abroad group went the Lake District and visited the cottage of William Wordsworth and the town he lived in for about ten years (and by town I mean street, it's literally a street about 3/4mi long).  We bused to another part of the Lake District for lunch and strolling about town; it was actually the town where Beatrix Potter did her "Peter Rabbit" tales.

p.s. My Gibraltarian neighbour Stuart has been persistently asking to be mentioned in my blavel!, so here is his 10 seconds of fame.  (Look, Stuart, I even spelled neighbour correctly!)

22nd from 'Birthday Weekend in England!' 22nd from 'Birthday Weekend in England!' Lake District from 'Birthday Weekend in England!'
