Deer!

Hi Blavelers!

Today Johnnie and I went to Richmond Park which is only two stops away from us on the overland train and then a bus trip. It's so cool! To begin with we had trouble finding it and just jumped onto this bus which took us to somewhere(?) in the burbs before Johnnie thought we should hop off which was a rather good idea even though we had to hike up a hill we finally found one of the many gates leading into it!

So all of a sudden we're in the middle of a wilderness in the middle of London! Well, apart from the very English looking trees we could be in a wilderness. I loved the long straw like grass all over the place and all the clumps of trees that are very Robinhoodish! As soon as we stepped inside the gates we saw DEER, heaps of deer! They were eating chestnuts along with the squirrels and birds. Very cute.

So we just start walking and pretty soon come across an amazing view of London and then even more deer but this time they were like, huge massieve deer! It was mating season and the males were locking horns and having a real good ole fashioned fight! Johnnie loved it! It was like trying to drag a little boy away from watching tonka trucks or something. :)

There was one particular huge deer that we were watching for ages, he was an absolute classic! Think egotistical male protecting his harem from other egotestical males! It was kinda like what I'd imagine a Gold Coast club to be. :) Harem it was too! This male had like all the chicks and the other males were trying for some action but he just took them on hey! It was so amusing I think we were standing there watching them for a few hours.

After the egotistical male eposide we found a cute little pond with the most gorgeous swans and ducks and another deer, but this one was really old and didn't care how close we came so we were just sitting there on a park bench with this beast that was taller than us about 3 metres away!

We only managed to see a tiny bit of the park (it's like 1000ha I think) before we wandered out a different gate and walked for ages (we really should get a map one of these days) looking for a good ole cup of English tea!

Actually we found a gorgeous coffee shop in Mortlake and had our every English cup of tea before walking aimlessly (once again) towards what we thought might be the Thames, but alas, no, it seems neither of us are particularly good with following our noses(!) and so after what seemed like ages we finally found a bus to take us back.

The end!

Love Sharrie and John

P.S Tune in tomorrow, we're off to Brighton!

Haha, seems that you would make a good zoologist! :P
Glad you are having fun and getting up to tourist-y things. Any luck on the job front?
Hope all is well. I know I keep saying it, but I really will give you both a call sometime soon! :) x

I can hardly believe what I am reading...you both come from years of experience in a Mapping Department for goodness sake!

John, get yourself a TomTom or something or you will end up getting Sahron completely lost one day and we all don't want that to happen.

Sharrie, was that a spelling mistake?? "Think egotistical male protecting his harem from other egotestical males!" or a clever use of words? Very good whichever.

The whole day sounds very exciting and I am extremely jealous of you both.

Don't forget the Blue Elephant!

Richmond Park sounds great! I wish I had found it when I was in London. It's amazing to think all those deer are there, so close to the centre of London. Did it used to be the king's hunting ground or something?
Glad you are having fun, keep the Blavel entries coming!

Hey Carry! Ha ha, yeah, it was a spelling mistake but good point, it's quite appropriate! We won't forget the Blue Elephant as soon as we have jobs we'll start splurging but with the way the Aussie dollar is to the pound at the moment I don't even want to think about how much we're spending at the moment! So good to hear from you! x S
