nothing seems to work out as planned

So the ski trip got cancelled because of the road conditions.  It has been snowing here the last three days.  Supposedly they put some chemicals into the clouds to make it snow here so that it would end the drought in the north.

Anyway it seems if you try to plan things they never play out as planned.  So instead of the ski trip Eric, Lisa, Kathy and I decided to bike to the Olympic Park.  First we stopped at our favorite dumpling place.  It was so full that there wasn't any space inside but the workers let us have the food outside.  They know us now since we have been there a million times (at least once a day)!  You can buy 10 dumplings and a bowl of soup for a dollar!  I love it there... things like this is what I will miss the most when I return.  So after we ate we headed over to the park.  It's a 10-15 min. bike ride from my dorm.  We had to park our bikes just outside the entrance so we walked around the park and saw all the main places (bird's nest, water cube, etc.).  Then we walked into the park that was at the end of the walkway.  It was clearly man made and it had random speakers all over the place playing classical music.  We climbed up the hill and saw the best views of the Olympic Park and other northern parts of Beijing.  It is amazing how a city can be so large yet I can still see the mountains on a clear day.  We walked/biked a total of five hours (just to give you a perspective of how large it was).  This just proves how wonderful my surrounds are here.  I do want to discover more of the whole of China also but there is so much to see here also!  When we got back I made some soy beans and bought a cut up fresh pineapple (for a little less than a dollar) for a snack.

So Sarah and I are wondering about putting chemicals in the clouds.....that sounds kind of dangerous.....??? But I'm glad you had fun anyway!! And isn't it awesome that we can get MORE for our money now?? :)

Perhaps there will be another ski trip when the snow stops and the
roads are open.
Thanks for taking the time to share your adventures.
