Since we dropped our one car off at John's friend's house last night all we had to do this morning was fit what we had left into the Fit. I should have filmed this display of sheer genius on my part. I told John to stay in the room with the kids since it is easier to get things done when they are not "helping". Apparently, when I got it all in the car I did a double pump in the air to celebrate. John was watching from the hotel window and was dying laughing.
Everyone piled into the clown car and off we went to the border with fingers crossed all would go smoothly. Our first stop was at the US Border to export the Honda Fit. That was experience I do not wish on anyone. And we get to do it again! We were lucky though and it ended up only taking just less than an hour (of which was spent standing in a dingy hallway waiting our turn). From there, it was off to the Canadian side for all the other stuff we had to do. This was a completely different experience. The border agents seemed happy and were super helpful. We were out of there in just over an hour completing John's work permit, importing our car, and declaring our goods with us and goods to follow. Once through the border we set off to find food since it was about 2pm. We took one of the first exits and found the first deli we could find. Got some sandwiches and drinks and the owner provided us with a map and directions to a nearby park. We ended up having a picnic almost underneath the Port Huron port crossing bridge on Lake Huron. This was my first glimpse of one of the great lakes. It was better than I had imagined. The day was beautiful, big blue sky, bright blue lake and a nice wind keeping us cool. We could have spent the rest of the day there but we still had about 2 hours of driving left to our final destination in Waterloo.
Back into the clown car and off we went to Waterloo! We arrived around 5:30pm and checked into our hotel. Yep, still hoteling it until the 22nd when we have a more permenant accommodation available for us. So for now, we are actually staying in Cambridge, which is part of the Kitchener-Waterloo area. However, the hotel has a pool and we have already tried it out. Not sure how much more chlorine my skin can take but I'm pretty sure I may start growing gills very soon.
So, tonight our journey comes to a end and tomorrow we embark on our new adventure here in Ontario. I would like to thank you for your support in reading this blog and coming along on our trip of a lifetime. Hopefully, we have given you some inspiration or maybe just a little enjoyment in reading about some of our experiences.
