With distance in mind and having said farewell to people we had met (Dieter and Kay) it was back on the road heading south.  The conservation park scenery was mainly sand, mallee scrub and small gum trees but as we moved south things greened up very quickly.  We passed through the nice country towns of Bordertown, Narcoorte and by the time we reached Penola we were into the vineyards of the Coonawarra wine region.

From Penola we took a hard left and headed east with once again there was a dramatic change to the scenery to large gum tree lined roads and very abundant pasture with beef and sheep farming in evidence.  Another border crossing also took us back into Victoria – clocks forward another 30 minutes.  After passing through the small farming towns of Casterton and Coleraine we arrived (finally) at our camp for the night at Wannon Falls.  Quite a tiring day as although the road the whole way was sealed, it was rough as guts.

The Wannon Falls camp area is however fantastic.  It is one those little gems we have come across occasionally and with a maximum stay of 48hrs it does not get messed up with people who move into some camp areas for weeks or months at a time.  The camp area is amongst large eucalypts with sheltered fireplaces and well defined camp areas.  A short distance from the camp area is the falls themselves and a very picturesque gorge with excellent walking tracks through the bush and surrounds.
