In 2006 John and I spent a wonderful week in Melbourne with my sister and brother-in-law.
One of the most memorable moments for us was the time we spent exploring the mysterious (Picnic at) Hanging Rock! It was a cold and wet day but even so, the countryside was beautiful! When we got to Hanging Rock there was no-one else but wildlife and us. The gum trees were sparkling with rain drops and the cloud cover was low. The rain also brought out all the subtle colours that only the Australian bush has, very beautiful!
Halfway up the small mountain we entered the cloud cover and it became very quiet, almost eerie! All of a sudden there were huge boulders looming above us in the mist. At one point we saw 1 or 2 small marsupials which may have been Wallabies but they had the darkest fur I'd ever seen on a Wallaby, almost black. No matter how patient and quiet John tried to be however, he just couldn't get them on film! Once at the top it was as if we were locked in by the clouds. You couldn't see over the edge and felt as if the clouds would catch you if you fell.
The first picture you see was taken on the way back down. I just happened to look up and there was the tree. Isn't it amazing! That picture is my favourite from our whole Melbourne trip.
