Today was new battery and get out of town day.  We had managed to secure another replacement battery (under warranty) for the caravan given that the one installed while we in Canberra in October was no longer performing as it should.  The suppliers were excellent to deal with and advised it was the wrong one for our application anyway being a “hybrid” deep cycle as opposed to a true deep cycle battery.  This meant its effective capacity was only about 50amp hours instead of the 105 we were lead to believe it was, and on top of that it was failing.  With our second new battery installed we said goodbye to Albany, and headed off east towards Esperance.

The scenery changed significantly as we moved further east with the tall timbered forests gone and replaced by smaller trees and scrubby vegetation bordering huge wheat growing areas with the usual large storage silos and the like along the way.  The weather was predominantly overcast with a few showers although it was quite sunny and warm when we stopped for lunch.

As the day was primarily just a distance day we did not stop anywhere along the way and only passed through the small settlement of Jerramungup.  Say that with a mouthful of dry wheatbix.  Our target rest area for the night unfortunately turned out to be just a narrow strip of dirt right next to the highway.  Not suitable at all so on we went until we came across another basic stopping area but this was much wider and although not ideal it would do for the night.  It was going to be a cold night however as the rain and southeasterly wind was still evident up until the sun went down.
