We have still got until January 10 until we have to go back to London (for a while, until our next trip). We were thinking of spending the rest of our in Czech but we changed our minds and now we are visiting Vienna and Budapest before heading back to Prague for our flight back. It's all so close together, why not?
It continues to be very cold in all these central European, landlocked countries. I think that Vienna is slightly warmer than Prague in general, but it doesn't feel like it. We still haven't seen temperatures higher than -2 since we left Cottbus.
Vienna is full of classical culture and great history. The people we have met so far have been very friendly, and it is good to be able to continue to practice German to some extent.
The hostel we are staying at also has a very good vibe, we have already made friends with some Australians and Americans. :)
So far we have visited the royal palace of the Austrian Kaiser, and we have ridden the tram around in circles around the city trying to get an overview of the sights. It is tough trying to do a full day of sightseeing in this temperature however, especially if it is windy.
Because Austria uses the Euro as their currency, unfortunately it is quite expensive. We are looking forward to a much cheaper time of things in Budapest spending some Hungarian Forint (which is about 127 to one Aussie dollar).
There are still a lot of things yet to see in Vienna over the next two days, but I have posted up the some of the pictures we have taken so far.
