It was a short drive from Mystery Bay through the lovely little resort town of Narooma which is set around very pretty salt water estuaries with the steep forested hills running down to the waters edge. With it quite difficult to stop with the van in tow we instead took some timeout at Lake Corunna a bit further up the road. Once again a salt water “lake” and with the lack of wind and quiet of the morning was mirror smooth.
After about 70km of very hilly road through lush eucalypt forest we took a lunch stop at Batemans Bay and also caught up with our world on the internet. It was a special day being little Princess Nathalia’s 3rd birthday which she happens by coincidence to share with our niece Becky. Concerned that we had not had much apparent interest in our add for the van on the Aussie web site we just happened to check if anything had been trapped on our spam filters. Lucky for us that we did as there were four emails from interested parties – Doh!! A quick flurry of email responses later we hoped that we had managed to connect with them all and not compromised any selling opportunities.
Batemans Bay is the closest beach area to Canberra and as such is very established and like many of the towns we had passed through is centered round significant salt water estuaries and waterways. While stopped on the bridge out of town waiting for the mid section to raise to let a boat through this motorbike did a little swifty and came down the outside of the waiting traffic and nosed in between us and the truck in front. Seconds later a very racy mufti cop car pulled up alongside him and shortly thereafter issued a ticket. It seemed a bit picky especially given where the cop parked obstructed the entire opposing traffic lane on the bridge.
Our chosen stop for the night was Pretty Beach in the Murramarang National Park. The 12km access road although sealed, was quite rough but given the early hour of the day was of no real consequence. Being a National Park there was a day entry fee as well as a camping fee. At $27 in total for two adults it was more expensive than at least one of the local caravan parks but its scenery, proximity to the beach and heaps of very friendly Kangaroos and very colourful parrots gave it enough appeal for us to bite the bullet and pay the dough. In spite of all the advertising blurbs we have seen on our travels showing kangaroos on a beach this is the first place we have come across where we have actually seen roos hopping around in the sand and grazing on the greenery in the dunes.
