After a rather testing time getting the Shitter and Van to mate (gutter in the way at the caravan park) we got off to an early start heading North.  We had no real plan in mind other than the fact that we were not going all the way to Townsville (388km) so we needed to stay somewhere along the way.

BTW – we have not made much mention of the weather during our travels as it does not vary much day to day, ie is sunny and warm (25-28) but when and if we ever get rain or some other significant event we will make mention.  This is apparently a warmer and dryer winter than normal.  Also another observation is that Australia is talking itself out of the recession (which is working).  Is NZ still all doom and gloom and working to keep it that way?

The trip to our first stop at Proserpine seemed very sort with the Shitter going very well so much so that we have changed its name to “The Beast” – it must have appreciated the new oil and a wash!!!  We parked up at the information centre to see what was around the area and pretty soon decided we would go to Airlie Beach as this is on the Whitsundays coast and apparently quite pretty.  Well after calling all the caravan parks there we only found one that had a space due to some sailing thingy being on but at $43 for the night we felt it was a bit over the top so we instead opted to try Bowen which is another 60 odd km up the road.

Here too we had issues finding space but eventually we found one and booked ourselves in for the night and after a snack headed to Bowen.

We got there around lunch time so after setup we ate and then went for a tiki tour of the town and beaches and up to the lookout on Flagstaff Hill which has nice views back to Airlie Beach and Bowen surrounds.  Carol even went for a walk in the ocean (which was very warm) in spite of all the signs warning of stingers which fortunately are out of season at the moment.

Then it was back to the van, a dip in the pool followed by a few drinks and dinner.  All in all it was a great day and although we felt sad leaving Lisa it is good to be back on the road again.
