We stayed in this area. Lucky for the us the bike race began just a mile or so down the road. We've seen many parts of different races but thought the start would be fun and give us a chance to see the riders up close. We did see a few team buses but instead of hanging around we went to the starting line. Of course the closer it got to the race time the more crowded it got but it was still fun. Levi and Lance were the last to enter the shoot. We did get some great photos and races are always a lot of fun and colorful. On this particular stage they started in Lido di Camiore and finished in Lucca.
Also, in the area we spent time swimming. There are many piers to walk on and they make for a great escape in the evenings with the gelato. One night we happened to see some jelly fish. Some were pretty large.
While this isn't a place to visit it is a great place to stay. There are plenty of hotels and many people rent apartments or villas to visitors. June, July, August are very busy as the summer and the beaches officially open June 1. We were lucky enough to have friends who live in the area so we spent time on their beach. There are public beaches but most visitors rent their umbrellas from the different beaches. It doesn't take much to find good food and gelato in areas like this.
